The Giants had a terrible start to the season, going 0-6 in what seemed like a nightmare for them. They did managed to bounce back, and have since gone 6-3, however, it was too little too late, and they enter today's contest on 6-9.
The Redskins started the season better than the Giants but have fallen away even more badly than their east coast rivals. The Redskins have found it hard to find any consistent good form at all this season, and they come into today's match up having won just three games all season long and a 3-12 record.
Before the season got started, this match up to end the regular season looked like a mouth-watering affair, and most would have thought this one would have major playoff implications. Things of course have turned out very different over the past 17 weeks.
The Giants will have more than two dozen players who can be free agents after the season ends today. There could be major shake ups in the playing staff, and it remains to be seen whether coaching staff will see changes as well.
The Redskins also are likely to have some kind of shake up following today's game. Some wonder whether Mike Shanahan will coach the team again after today, and others are considering what the whole Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins controversy at quarterback will mean.
The result of today's game is meaningless but it is likely that both teams are planning major overhauls of some sort in the aftermath of this match up.
Today's game will start at 1 p.m. ET and can be watched on TV on the Fox network or online through free live stream by clicking here.
